Reflections on 'Feast for the Soul'

feast_for_soulThe World Wide Meditation practice “Feast for the Soul” concluded February 23rd. The mission was to support individuals in making a commitment to daily spiritual practice for forty days. Here is what some of our participants said about their forty day meditation experience:

"I received an e'mail from my sister in the fall about a planned nation- and world-wide experience called Winter Feast for the Soul: forty consecutive days of forty minutes of meditation. I knew I would participate. I believed others might join me in holding the space at Blue Moon. Every day there were participants who made donations to keep the heat on and who sat to nurture their souls and to nurture the world's soul. It was a powerful experience for me of sinking deeper and lifting higher. Some days were easy; others were difficult, full of busy thoughts. I learned the benefit of showing up on my mat and cushion every day. Certainly I plan to join others again next January. In the meantime, there is interest among us of continuing an early morning opportunity to sit together at Blue Moon. Are you?" ~S

"I sat each day with the intention of “simplicity”, inviting myself to not complicate or embellish the sitting with congratulatory sentiments. Just sit. Simple? Some days yes, some days, no. What I do know for sure is that I looked forward to, in fact yearned for, that 40 minute sitting every day. To me that time to sit became precious and gentle. Discipline led to contemplation and self-awareness. Am I finished? Not by a long shot! Each day I come to my cushion with the excitement of starting a new venture; today, what will I find?" ~L

"Thanks for offering the early morning meditation, it was truly beautiful. I am not sure why I responded, as any call it came from deep within searching for inner quiet, I did find what I was looking for. The meditation stretched me into the longest sit I had experienced, and I loved it. It was with this knowing that I rose each morning eager to meet the quiet bliss that the early morning brings. I did have real positive benefits from taking the morning time; a better sense of order, an ability to meet daunting projects and finish them with ease. I also was affirmed in the benefit of a new discipline, in a very short period of time. I thank you for your commitment, it was a blessing to the world." peace, ~K

"When I reflect on what motivates me these days I think of Stephen Cope's thought that  "Struggle and liberation live side-by-side in the life of a practitioner of yoga." I find this to be true in my own life so I try to put myself in a position to experience all that I can, to live my life to its fullest potential. I was drawn to participate in Winter Feast for the Soul by the "promise" of the Rumi quote and by my already growing awareness of a spiritual void. I found the time with the group to be grounding and supportive; affirming my belief that we are not on this journey alone. My quality of life improved as I began each day nurturing awareness, peace, and clarity. I look forward to the next opportunity to join together in spirit and meditation. Thank you once again for your time and dedication."  ~M

Many thanks to those who participated in this inner journey with the world.
