The heart chakra is located near the center of the sternum. This energy center represents higher consciousness and love. It is associated with the heart, thymus gland, lower lung and circulatory system. The heart chakra acts as the balance point for all the chakras. It governs our relationships and how we interact with other people. A balanced heart chakra is expressed in acceptance of self and others, personal values and ethics, following one's unique direction in life. A balanced Heart Chakra means expansion, freedom and growth!

This special class will focus creating energetic awareness of this chakra through breathing exercises, yoga poses and meditation/visualization techniques. Come dressed for a yoga class!

Overcoming Performance Anxiety
"Self-expression is the essence of human creativity. Yet for many, performance anxiety can be a real impediment to the freedom of mind, breath, and body that is required for personal authenticity be it onstage, in the classroom, or at home. This two hour seminar will explore the roots of performance anxiety and how it manifests in the spirit-mind-body complex, and then discuss Yoga principles and practices to overcome the blocks that performance anxiety can generate. Singers, musical performers, public speakers, teachers, chanters, and anyone who has ever felt inhibited from creative self-expression will find the workshop stimulating and helpful.

Yin Yoga

kristen_butera_fish_posewith Kristen Butera, ERYT 500

Weekend Intensive:
Friday, October 22 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Saturday, October 23 from 10:30 - 5:30 PM
Sunday, October 24 from 10:30 - 3:30 PM

In these modern times, it can be difficult to slow things down. A never-ending stream of communication and activity leaves us running from place to place. Sometimes even trying to make room for a Yoga practice leaves us feeling frazzled. This is where Yin yoga can be tremendously helpful. Yin Yoga offers a unique approach. The yoga student is encouraged to relax their muscles in the pose and the poses are meant to be held for longer periods of time, approximately 3-5 minutes. When combined in practice, these two elements encourage a sense of surrender and release in the body and mind that can be very powerful.

Join Kristen Butera, ERYT 500 as we learn about the power of Yin Yoga. All levels of yoga experience are welcome.

Ayurveda & Yoga

Weekend Intensive with Kristen Rinaldi,

ayurveda_photosNancy Beach and Stacy Smith

Friday, November 19, 6:00-8:00 PM,
Saturday, November 20, 10:30 AM-5:30 PM,
Sunday, November 21, 12:30-5:30 PM

Ayurveda is considered the sister science to Yoga and is the original health care practice of India, now over five thousand years old. While Yoga is often thought of as a science of spirituality or self-realization, Ayurveda is literally translated as the knowledge of life, or the science of life. Both Ayurveda and Yoga share the common goal of supporting balanced prana (life force), and emphasize how to build prana, maintain its balance and keep it flowing for lifelong physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

In this workshop you will be introduced to fundamental concepts of Ayurveda, including the three constitutional types (the "doshas") of which we are all composed: vata, pitta and kapha, and their relationship to the five underlying elements (the "pancha mahabutas"): ether, air, fire, water and earth. The workshop will connect the doshas to the three gunas: sattva, rajas and tamas, and will investigate the expression of the qualities of the doshas and the gunas through corresponding asanas.  The goal of the workshop will be to guide the participant to the early understanding and identification of his or her primary dosha and to be able to further investigate signs of individual doshic imbalance, which can lead to disease.

Reflections on 'Feast for the Soul'

feast_for_soulThe World Wide Meditation practice “Feast for the Soul” concluded February 23rd. The mission was to support individuals in making a commitment to daily spiritual practice for forty days. Here is what some of our participants said about their forty day meditation experience:

"I received an e'mail from my sister in the fall about a planned nation- and world-wide experience called Winter Feast for the Soul: forty consecutive days of forty minutes of meditation. I knew I would participate. I believed others might join me in holding the space at Blue Moon. Every day there were participants who made donations to keep the heat on and who sat to nurture their souls and to nurture the world's soul. It was a powerful experience for me of sinking deeper and lifting higher. Some days were easy; others were difficult, full of busy thoughts. I learned the benefit of showing up on my mat and cushion every day. Certainly I plan to join others again next January. In the meantime, there is interest among us of continuing an early morning opportunity to sit together at Blue Moon. Are you?" ~S
