with Mid Walsh, RYT
Breathing is a fundamental human activity. Essential to our physical life, intimately intertwined with our emotions, elegantly simple and surprisingly powerful, the breath is a pathway to understanding the experience of being alive. Considered one of the most ancient traditions of yoga, regulation of the breath has the potential to still the mind, regulate the emotions, increase physical health, and enhance athletic performance.
This workshop is designed to provide a basic cognitive and experiential understanding of yogic breathing techniques. It will include an examination of the anatomy of breathing through pictures, words, and exercises; an overview of yogic breathing techniques, effects, and cautions; experience with some of the essential techniques; and tips for establishing an ongoing practice.
Mid Walsh is a former endurance athlete who has been practicing yoga as post-workout stretch for over 15 years and doing asanas as his primary form of exercise for the past 6 years. A consistent regimen of pranayama (yogic breathing) is at the foundation of Mid’s yoga practice, and he integrates these breathing techniques with sculling, his favorite hobby.
Mid has experience and an understanding of hatha, anusara, ashtanga, power, yin and vinyasa yoga, and he is certified by Yogaworks (RYT 200) and he is currently enrolled in the 500 Hour Classical Yoga Teacher Training Program with the YogaLife Institute of NH. His daily practice follows the Iyengar tradition, which he studies in Boston with Patricia Walden. He is a published poet who besides yoga enjoys sculling, and bicycling. Mid is the author of The First Ten Practices of Yoga, a collection of poems and essays about the ethical principles of yoga. He and his wife Fay live with their magical cat Carmen just south of Boston in Hingham MA, where they co-own the yoga studio, Dancing Crow Yoga.
This workshop is eligible for 2 Classical Yoga teacher training hours or CEU credits.
