Discovering the Crown Chakra

Chakra's are energy centers within the body. The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara Chakra is at the crown of the head, and is the major entry point for prana. It has been said this is our connection to the Divine and the chakra that energizes the other major chakras. Just as the Root Chakra reaches down into the earth, the Crown Chakra reaches upward into the spiritual world.

Sahasrara is a Sankrit term meaning "thousand" ~ the "lotus of the thousand petals". When an individual's energy reaches the Crown Chakra the illusion of the individual self is dissolved. The yogi reaches Samadhi - the pure bliss of total inactivity. At this time all feelings, emotions, and desires, all activities of the mind, are dissolved into their primary cause. The union is achieved.

Sunday, March 11 from 1:00-3:00pm

Surya Namaskar..... a greeting of honor, a demonstration of respect to the divine presence in each of us, the birth of your practice. Did you know that sun salutations are the foundation of a classical yoga practice?

It is through this serpentine flow that we move into a deeper asana practice. Sun Salutations warm and awaken the body, soften the muscles, open the joints, and stimulate the neurological, circulatory, and subtle energetic pathways in the body. Through synchronization of movement and breath, the body, mind, and spirit can move towards presence of mind, awareness, and acceptance.

The knowledge and study of the human energy system has been around for thousands of years. There are seven main chakras or spinning wheels of energy. If one or more are blocked then life energy will not flow and physical and/or emotional problems may develop in that area.

Color, sound, movement and imagery will guide you as you travel from root to crown while experiencing the essence of your chakras. Connecting with and experiencing these energy centers can help you better understand yourself. The group energy enhances every one's experience and accelerates healing and awareness.

enneagram-Tools for Contentment
with Roberta Whitney, RYT

Sunday, March 25 from 1:00-4:00pm

There are many philosophical concepts that revolve around the idea of cycles or patterns, not only in nature and our relationship to our environment, but also within ourselves. Questions arise: "Why do I feel stuck?" "Why do I make the same mistakes over and over?" "Why can't I seem to progress or feel happier?" These questions ultimately lead to a greater question, "Why do I make the choices I do?"

In most instances these questions relate to and are rooted in our systems of belief and concepts of reality. In other instances we make the choices we make based on our seeking of pleasure, happiness, or gain over our fears of change or loss.

There is never a dull moment when it comes to exploring the workings of the human body. Whether moving our spines in all directions, gripping the floor for balance, or inverting to increase blood flow to the brain for clarity, we are synchronizing various involuntary bodily functions with voluntary ones.

Go 'Out on a limb'. . . shift your focus toward your own bodily limbs (extremities). They play an important role in the your body's ability to balance and support itself, not to mention that in a lot of many instances when we feel 'inflexible', it is due to immobility located in the joints associated with our limbs.
